WELCOME TO THE ABBEY OF SANTA MARIA DI PERO – NINNI RIVA

The Abbey, a historic bulding

The Abbey is located in the heart of the Veneto region and is a thousand -year old prestine architectural gem. Founded around 958 AD during the Holy Roman Empire, The Benedictine monastery is the oldest building in Monastier (Treviso). It reached its highest development after 1479 when it passed on to a Benedictine congregation guided by the Abbot of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice. It then remained under the rule of the Serenissima Repubblica and was later confiscated by Napoleon. In 1837 the aristocratic Ninni family, of Greek origin, acquired the Abbey and the estate. During the Great War the Abbey was set up as a military hospital and an injured Ernest Hemingway was hospitalized there. In the year 2000 the family began an important restoration project which transformed the ancient abbey in a treasured building.
